In general, if a person is driving another car, the car insurance on the vehicle that a person is driving, let’s say on the borrowed car, is the primary car insurance while the personal car insurance that the driver has will be the secondary insurance.

Meaning to say, if the person driving the borrowed vehicle met a vehicular accident, the auto insurance on the borrowed vehicle will primarily covered for the damages incurred and any excess of damages will be covered by the driver’s (the person who borrowed the car) personal auto insurance.

Even if you have your own personal car insurance but you are caught driving a vehicle without car insurance it is still against the law. Driving a vehicle that does not have car insurance often results to being penalized by the law and normally this kind of violation involves costly fines, suspension of license and registration and even impoundment of the vehicle.

As to your question if you are still covered, I would say it’s best to ask this to your car insurance agent. This still depends on the law in your states, your auto insurance policy, and even the terms and conditions that are included in your policy.
