Automobile Insurance Coverage Koolaupoko Hawaii HI

Reader’s Question:

I am moving to Koolaupoko Hawaii with my wife soon. I still don’t know a lot of things when it comes to car insurance in Hawaii. I need some basic information about this so I could plan my insurance policy well. Can you help?

Dwight

Koolaupoko, HI

Sure Dwight!

Hawaii is a no-fault state which means that when you are involved in a vehicular accident you auto insurance automatically pays for the damage up to a specified amount regardless if you are at fault or not. Hawaii follows a minimum liability coverage of 20/40/10:

  • $20,000/person injured;
  • $40,000/accident
  • $10,000 for damage to property to the other party
  • $10,000/person for Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

If you are driving a motorcycle, your insurance company is required to offer you a medical expense policy which covers up to $10,000. And also, they are required to offer you policy for bodily injury liability coverage and income disability plan in excess of the minimum amount required.

Check with auto insurance agents for more information on car insurance or you can also check the websites for auto insurance companies in Koolaupoko, Hawaii for additional information.

Auto Insurance Question Fort Lauderdale Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

I’m a salesman by profession. I was recently promoted to a supervisory position and this promotion demands me to go to different places all the time. In fact, it will require me to live outside Florida for about 6 months every year. So when I’m not in Florida, I’m planning not to use my car and leave it in storage in Fort Lauderdale. My question is, do I still have to maintain car insurance when I’m not in Florida?

Ryan

Fort Lauderdale, FL

Congratulations on your promotion!

Now going back to your question, yes you must maintain car insurance even if you do not live in Florida for 6 months. Florida state law requires that all vehicles with valid Florida registration and tag to be covered by insurance policy during the entire registration period. However, you can also opt to surrender your registration and tag to any Florida tag or driver license office. This is one way of avoiding maintaining your insurance policy. When you are ready to go back here in Florida, then you can register your vehicle again but don’t forget to provide proof of Florida insurance. Always remember that when you register a vehicle (with at least 4 wheels), you are required to provide proof of insurance by law.

Don’t forget to check with Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) for additional information. Also check with your insurance agent or car insurance websites in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to help you find more about your insurance plan that will best meet your needs.

Automobile Insurance Rate Iowa City Iowa IA

Reader’s Question:

My cousin was involved in a car accident in Iowa City, IA. It was a minor accident and both parties agreed not to report it. My question is, when is the right time to report an accident? And what does auto insurance has to do with car accidents in Iowa?

Ricky

Iowa City, IA

The state of Iowa does not have a compulsory law that requires every driver to purchase auto insurance. But if you’re license is suspended or you are involved in a vehicular accident in Iowa City (whether you are the driver or owner of the vehicle) then you will be required to show financial responsibility. And financial responsibility can be any of the following:

  • Proof that you have auto insurance at the time of accident;
  • File an agreement saying that you would pay the damage or injury of the other party on installment;
  • File proof of complete settlement of the damages and/or injuries
  • Cash, bank draft, check (cahier’s, certified), or postal money order payable to Office of Driver Services;
  • Obtain releases from the damaged or injured parties;
  • Execute a warrant for confession of judgment that includes an agreement of payment schedule; or

Get a decision resulting from a civil damage action relieving you of all liability.

Now going back to your question, when should you report an accident? If a vehicular accident results to damage (be it property damage, bodily injury, death etc) amounting to $1000 or more, then it must be reported to the Office of Driver Services within 72 hours, regardless if you are at fault or not. But, you are not required to file a personal accident report if a police is already investigating said accident. However, you must provide proof of financial responsibility if you cause damage or personal injury of more than $1,000 to the other party.

For additional information about Iowa’s law concerning motor vehicle financial responsibility you can always check with Iowa Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division or even check their website.

Vehicle Insurance Rates Paradise Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I love small cars because I think they are cute. My mom is going to buy me a car soon and I’m shopping for cars now. But my friend told me that getting a small car is not good because it means paying higher insurance rates for my mom. Is that a fact? Does size of car affects insurance rates in Paradise, NV?

Nancy

Paradise, NV

Your friend is right Nancy, when it comes to insurance rates, size does matter.

Some drivers think that having a small car will help them avoid vehicular accidents or even escape trouble because it’s easier to maneuver, but sadly it’s is a myth. According to statistics, smaller cars tend to be involved in more accidents because they found to be involved in faster driving. So if a car is more likely to be engaged in accidents, then that only means one thing, higher rates for insurance bill.

There are other car factors that affect car insurance rates to go up like: car that is likely to be stolen; an expensive car, because this demands higher cost for repair; and cars with aluminum body panels, because replacing or fixing these cars are more expensive as compared to cars with sheet metal.

On the other hand, research shows that cars that are considered safest are the full-sized sedan cars. So, consider shopping for that kind of car if you want to help your mom on lowering down her premium. Also, it’s best to continue doing your homework. Shop online for the best insurance rates you can get in Paradise, Nevada.

Teen Automobile Insurance Tallahassee Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

My daughter is celebrating her birthday and I’ll be buying her first car. I heard from friend that there are cars that are said to be most likely stolen and those that are not. I know that having a car that is likely to be stolen only guarantees a higher premium rate. Since, it’s going to be my daughter’s first car, I’d like to make sure it won’t be stolen and that I won’t be paying more on my premium in Tallahassee, Florida. Can you help me?

Diane

Tallahassee, FL

That’s true. There are cars that are too hot for a theft’s eyes and there are cars that are not. According to a study conducted by Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (from 2003-2005) following are the cars most likely to be stolen or be broken into:

1. Cadillac Escalade
2. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
3. Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickup
4. Ford F-250 and F-350 SuperCrew four-wheel drive pickups (2005s only)
5. Chrysler Sebring (2004, 2005)

On the other hand, if you want to buy your daughter a car that is proven to be least likely to be stolen, I would suggest you consider buying these cars:

1. Ford Taurus station wagon
2. Pontiac Vibe station wagon
3. Buick Le Sabre
4. Buick Park Avenue
5. Toyota Sienna four-wheel drive (2004, 2005)

The type of car is always a factor on your insurance rates. Buying cars that are likely to be stolen or broken into will only assure you of higher premium. Don’t forget to ask your insurance agents when shopping for insurance rates or to get faster information use the Internet and start comparing insurance rates in Tallahassee, FL.

Collision Coverage Auto Insurance Apple Valley California CA

Reader’s Question:

A car was stolen from a dealership, hit my car. My car is totaled and I only had liability insurance in Apple Valley, California. The auto dealership’s insurance carrier said that since they reported the car stolen three months prior to the accident they are not responsible and will not pay for my vehicle. Is this correct?

Sandy

Apple Valley, CA

Generally unless the at-fault driver is found, the one who stole the car from the dealership and hit your vehicle, there is no one to go after for the damages to your automobile. If you had collision coverage on your car you could place a first party insurance claim with your own insurance carrier however with since you only have liability coverages in Apple Valley, California, this is not possible.

The owner of the car, to be held liable for damages sustained to your vehicle, they would have to have given permission to the driver to drive the car. Since it was stolen obviously there was no permission given for the vehicle to be driven and so usually the dealership could not be held liable for the thief hitting your car with their stolen automobile.

You may want to check with a lawyer to be sure what the stolen car owner can be held responsible for in your state.

Collision Coverage Auto Insurance Tuscaloosa Alabama AL

Reader’s Question:

What happens I do not have collision coverage insurance in Tuscaloosa and I got involved in an accident?

Charles

Tuscaloosa, AL

If you do not have collision insurance coverage in Tuscaloosa Alabama and damage your car in an at-fault crash then you will be held liable normally for the cost of repairing your car.

Without comprehensive and collision your car is not covered for you to make car insurance claims with your own insurance company for damages it may sustain in a wreck.

For the damages or injuries you may have caused to others then you will likely have liability coverages property damage and bodily injury. These cover others that you may have injured in an accident but do not cover you or your car.

In most states if you were not at fault in an accident then you would make a car insurance claim against the at-fault driver’s property damage liability for the damages to your own car.
