If you live in state of Huntington, West Virginia are you required to have automobile insurance if you do not own a vehicle?

The West Virginia law requires all registered automobiles to be insured. The minimum amount of coverage required is bodily injury of $20,000 up to $40,000 per accident and $10,000 for property damage. This is also known as 20/40/10 coverage. All automobile insurance policies must be issued by a insurance carrier licensed to sell insurance in West Virginia.

So if you just have a driver’s license and do not own a automobile you are not required to carry car insurance to maintain your drivers license. You are not required to show proof of car insurance to obtain a driver’s license in Huntington, West Virginia but you are if you are registering an automobile.
