Reader’s Question:

I have an 18 year old son who still lives with me. He has his own car and has his own auto insurance on the car he is using. If he is involved in an accident will this affect my auto insurance rate?

You’ve mentioned that your son has his own auto insurance policy and I am assuming he is no longer under your policy. With this, I don’ see any reasons for your auto insurance rate to be affected if ever he is involved in a car accident. If let’s say he is and God forbids, then it will go on his own driving record. Thus, when his auto insurance company reviews his records, they would see the violation under your son’s name and not yours. Then with this, his auto insurance rate will be the one that would be affected and not yours.

Keep in mind that maintaining a clean driving record is one of the best ways to assure you of a lower car insurance premium. However, just to make sure, I would suggest you ask your auto insurance agent inĀ  Kentucky regarding this matter.
